Questions

Is Lux Laser UK the best laser hair removal clinic in Bedfordshire?

We might be biased… but yes 💁🏼‍♀️✨

Lux Laser UK has been awarded “Best Laser Hair Removal Clinic” in the UK Beauty Awards, and we’re proud to be recognised nationally for our results, safety standards, and client care.

Clients travel to us from Bedford, Milton Keynes, Northampton and surrounding areas because we combine:

  • Award-winning expertise

  • Medical-grade technology

  • The gold-standard Candela GentleMax Pro Laser with it's powerful dual wavelength Alexandrite & Nd:YAG lasers

  • A warm, welcoming, no-judgement approach

If you’re searching for the best laser hair removal clinic in Bedfordshire (and technically the whole of the UK) - you’ve just found her.

What laser hair removal machine do you use at Lux Laser UK?

We use the Candela GentleMax Pro, widely recognised as the gold standard in laser hair removal worldwide.

Ok, so why does that matter?

Because not all lasers are created equal.

The Candela GentleMax Pro uses powerful dual wavelength technology:

  • Alexandrite (755nm) – ideal for lighter skin tones and finer hair

  • Nd:YAG (1064nm) – safer for deeper skin tones and higher melanin levels

This means we can safely and effectively treat all skin types (Fitzpatrick I–VI).

It’s powerful, precise, and results-driven - and it’s one of the reasons we’ve won national awards.

Cute side note: our laser hair removal machine is used by leading medical professionals worldwide, and also the Kardashians, (and they know a thing-or-two about the best tech) so don't worry, you're in great company!

How does Laser Hair Removal actually work?

Laser hair removal works by delivering a concentrated beam of light into the hair follicle. The pigment in the hair absorbs the light, which disables the follicle’s ability to regrow hair.

Unlike shaving (which cuts hair at the surface) or waxing (which pulls it out temporarily), laser works at the root for long-term reduction.

Most clients notice:

  • 30–40% reduction after one session

  • 85–95% reduction after a full course (typically 6–10 sessions)

Smooth skin loading…

Does Laser Hair Removal hurt? and is Laser Hair Removal painful?

Short answer? It’s very manageable.

With the Candela GentleMax Pro’s cooling system, most clients describe the sensation as:

A quick snap” or “a little warmth”.

We usually prep you to expect around a 4–5 out of 10 on the discomfort scale - noticeable, but very tolerable.

And because we customise your settings, your comfort is always prioritised. Not feeling it one session? Just let us know and we'll adapt accordingly.

How many sessions of Laser Hair Removal will I need?

Laser hair removal works in cycles, because hair grows in stages.

Most clients need:

  • 6–10 sessions

  • Spaced 4–6 weeks apart at the start, with the spacing increasing as you progress through your treatment

Factors like hormones (hello PCOS), hair thickness, and area treated can affect this, with additional sessions being required.

Once you have finished your Laser Hair Removal sessions, you can expect to pop back for the odd maintenance zap c. once a year or once every 2-3 years, depending on your underlying hormones or other factors (e.g. having a baby, starting HRT or other hormonal medication etc.)

During your consultation, we create a personalised plan so you know exactly what to expect.

Is Laser Hair Removal permanent?

Laser hair removal provides permanent hair reduction, not 100% permanent hair removal.

This is because during your sessions, we can only treat the hair that is growing at that time (hair that is in the anagen phase). New hairs may generate in the future and these hairs may never experienced a zap on the ol' laser hair removal machine.

This is significantly more common in people with PCOS or underlying hormonal issues as new hair is generated at a more frequent rate.

What this means for you:

After a full course, most clients see up to 85–95% reduction in regrowth.

Any remaining hair is usually:

  • Finer

  • Softer

  • Slower growing

  • Lighter, blonder and significantly less noticeable

Many clients choose occasional maintenance sessions once or twice a year, with some popping back every 2-3 years (or longer).

Is Laser Hair Removal safe for all skin types I-VI?

Yes - when performed using the correct technology & by a trained and insured laser expert.

At Lux Laser UK, because we use the Candela GentleMax Pro dual-wavelength laser, we can safely treat:

  • Fair skin

  • Olive skin

  • Asian skin

  • Black skin

The Nd:YAG wavelength allows us to treat higher melanin levels safely - which many older machines cannot.

Extra caution needs to be exercised when skin is tanned. We will require you to wait c. 6-8 weeks after sun exposure (or until your skin has returned to base colour) before you can be safely treated on the Alexandrite laser.

At Lux Laser UK, your safety is always our priority.

Can Laser Hair Removal be used to treat sensitive areas?

Absolutely.

We regularly treat:

  • Hollywood / Brazilian

  • Bikini line

  • Underarms

  • Face (upper lip, chin, jawline)

  • Perianal area

  • Nipples & toes

These are extremely common concerns, and we approach every treatment professionally, discreetly, and respectfully.

You can even side-lay for certain treatments (hello peri-anal!) to maintain comfort and dignity.

No awkward vibes here. Just care, expertise, results and lots of laughs whilst you're in clinic.

Does laser help with ingrown hairs and razor rash?

Yes - and this is one of the biggest benefits.

Laser hair removal reduces:

  • Ingrown hairs

  • Razor bumps

  • Shaving irritation

  • Dark pigmentation caused by inflammation

By disabling the follicle, we stop the cycle of trapped hairs and irritation.

Your skin will feel smoother and calmer, and the skin tone will appear lighter and brighter - not just hair-free.

See ya later dark shadows & sore skin!

Can laser hair removal help with PCOS?

Yes, and it can be life-changing.

Many of our clients with PCOS travel from Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes and Northampton for support with:

  • Facial hair - particularly along the chin & jawline

  • Core body hair: Stomach, chest and back

  • Hormonal regrowth

While laser does not treat PCOS itself, it significantly reduces hormonally-driven hair growth and improves confidence.

We create tailored plans for our PCOS girlies because we understand regrowth patterns differ, aaaand because it is highly likely you will need more sessions than most, we offer 50% off the individual area prices for LIFE.

Yes really, in as many areas as you need. It's our little way of saying thank you for choosing us and to let you know we really are here to help.

Is Laser Hair Removal safe in summer?
and is Laser Hair Removal safe with a tan?

Yes - but with proper guidance and a whole load of caveats.

We simply advise:

  • Avoid being actively tanned

  • Avoid getting any sunburn

  • Avoid sunbeds

  • Do not fake tan - or ensure it is removed 2 weeks before your appt

  • Follow SPF recommendations - SPF 50, always!

We need your skin to be at base colour for treatment to be safe and effective.

In lighter skin tones where we use the Alexandrite laser, it is extremely dangerous for the skin to be tanned. This is because the Alexandrite laser works by targeting the melanin in your hair, and instead of finding the pigment in your hair, it can catch on the skin and present as a thermal injury (burn).

Our Nd: YAG laser is melanin-safe for deeper skin tones, and consequently this is not a risk in darker skin tones.

We assess your skin at every appointment to ensure safe settings before proceeding, and we will ask you to sign to confirm you are not tanned before treatment takes place.

Please be aware of any clinic that advertise as 'tan-safe' or advise you can be treated with a tan. This will usually mean you are compromising on the quality and power of the laser being used, resulting in a less-effective treatment overall.
